Full in-house design solutions for mechanical and electrical contracts

Our Design and Development Service

Drayton Beaumont Services offer a full in house design solution for all design and build mechanical and electrical contracts. Our team can develop a design from performance specification or via consultation to build employers requirements on their behalf.

Every contract will have an in house mechanical and electrical professional design team appointed to work with the employers requirements, Planning conditions, Building regulations, Construction Design Management requirements, Building coordination and restraints, BREEAM requirements, Structural engineer requirements, fire strategy and utilities to build a design solution that fits all of these requirements and is build-able, maintainable and designed to aesthetically suit the building and environment.

Our Team will work with the whole building design team to over come problems and develop solutions and will be flexible to accommodate any client changes or new requirements.

On commencement of the design a detailed design programme will be issued capturing any time allowance required to allow the client to monitor our progress and help assist the client to programme his works around the design and allow the client to estimate his procurement.

All design work will be reviewed regularly through design team meetings at agreed intervals within the programme to allow consultation with the design team. Any information requested or issued will be ontrolled via our document control system and recorded by requests for information, project design notes and change requests.

Through the design process our team will always look for opportunities to offer the client betterment either in commercial terms by value engineering, betterment within build-ability and improve the energy performance and reduce the building carbon emissions.

Before issuing the design all mechanical and electrical systems will be coordinated with each other and coordinated with the building via detailed working drawings showing all pinch points, coordinated ceiling plans, riser details, etc. to check the services will fit within the building and to minimise any potential risk through early clash detection. This benefit is achieved by having in house mechanical and electrical design capability working strategically alongside each other on every project. A detailed QA process is followed before any design information is released for comment to ensure all calculations and designs are correct.

Once the design is complete a full set of working auto-cad drawings, a detailed design file, equipment technical proposal and system descriptions will be issued to the design team and client for approval.

DBS has in house thermal modelling capability and currently uses IES software to undertake thermal modelling and Building Regulations Part L Compliance testing. We have a registered Low Carbon Energy Assessor (LCEA) within the design team and we are able to formally lodge building regulation certificates for new and refurbishment projects (up to and including Level 5 energy assessments). We are able to provide thermal modelling assistance at any point within the design process from early stage concept work to the detailed design stage.

DBS are also fluent with other industry standard design software packages including Hevacomp, Amtech, AutoCad and RevitMEP. We are currently building on our existing collaboration and BIM capabilities and have recently completed several projects where 3D modelling using RevitMEP was employed within the design process.
